CONSOLAZIONE FAMILY HISTORY
Desendants of Giovanni Consolazione

Salvatore Consolazione      This history of the "Consolazione" family is the product and untiring efforts of our recently found cousin "Salvatore Consolazione" of Rome, Italy. His time and travels reseaching our surname "Consolazione" is very interesting, very valuable, and most of all very appreciated. "Professor Salvatore Consolazione" is the author of this "Desendants of Giovanni Consolazione" genealogical information which we are about to read. I personally thank him for granting us permission to include his works in this "Consolazione Web Site".

      We must also thank our son "Paul Consolazione" for his recent discovery our "Consolazione" relatives in Rome, Italy. Also "Mr. Peter Bellanti" of Tusan, AZ. who has spent many years researching our families, relatives and friends from Sant' Elia Sicily where it all started, his genealogical studies are vast and very precious. Also my daughter "Jane Pipia" who has had much contact with these gentlemen and shared a lot of information with each other. To these people we are extremely grateful.

      Our name "Consolazione" derived from the Latin word "conolata-onis", meaning "Consolation". The Italian-American scholar "Joseph G. Fucilla", an authority on Italian surnames, places our name among the ones expressing desirable qualities. Documented variants of our surname "Consolazione" include "Consolazio","Consoletti", "Console","Consol","Consolata". and possibly others.

     As cugino Salvatore will now show us, the earliest references to our name is of one "Giovanni Consolazione" who was born about 1782 in Sant' Elia, Sicily. Research is of course ongoing and our name may have been documented even earlier than this.

It would be impossible for me to produce this web site with using Salvatores' reseach work, the big problem I had was the many different spelling of the name "Balistreri", when I didn't know the spelling used by a individual family, I used the spelling of my mothers family name " Balistreri"
